We are so laidback here it's not even funny...except when it comes to the following:
1. Aretha said it best. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. We disagree here. A lot. But we do not try to take each other out in the process. So please do debate, dispute, and disagree if you feel so inclined but do it thoughtfully and with the idea in mind of ultimately coming to a better understanding of the perspectives and thinking of others. Personal attacks on board members are simply not okay and will result in much unhappiness on the part of the attacker.
That said...
2. Do not take things on this board personally. Try to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than jumping to conclusions about what they are saying and to whom they are saying it. Humor works wonders in uncertain situations as do questions about a poster's intent. Turning off your computer would be the ultimate remedy. Use this last method sparingly and as a last resort, but do not fail to use it when necessary.
3. We do not allow racist, sexist, or homophobic posts on this board. If you want to express intolerance regardless of whether or not God or some other higher power supports it or your godless heathen life calls for it, you have come to the wrong place. Oh man, have you. Posts violating this rule will be deleted and posters engaging in such behavior will be publicly shamed.
4. This is an adult-themed board. Content is adult level, and there will be things posted which are not "appropriate" for children--at least in the Western, Eurocentric sense where children are thought to be something akin to fragile-minded idiot-folk. For our own piece of mind, then, we do and will discourage posters who are under the randomly chosen "adult" age of 18 from making this their home. That said, this is not a porn site...please be mindful that there is a line, albeit blurry, when it comes to graphic descriptions. Profuse swearing, however, is allowed.
5. One of the great strengths of Clayton's Place is the diversity of its posters. We are all different in every way that it is possible to be differerent, and this is a beautiful thing. What is perhaps challenging about all of this glorious difference, though, is that it means that we will approach fandom in general and being a Clay Aiken fan specifically in very different ways. Some of us are gushy, some are mushy, some are cynical, some are quiet, some are loud, some are easily pleased, some are not. Please let all people here be fans in whatever way they want and need to be. Let the fangirls fangirl, the cynics bitch, and everyone else do whatever they're going to do--there's room here for us all. If someone's approach to this fandom is annoying to you in some way, sit back and remember that, at the very least, we are each here because we get some kind of joy out of listening to Clay Aiken sing. Everything else that we read here is just a manifestation of our diverse minds and lives; we have an opportunity to learn so much from each other, and that, if you think about it, is really fairly cool.
Regarding Disruptive Posters: We trust our active members to know when someone is here to just yank our chain and we are comfortable with our members dealing with these individuals as they see fit. This does not apply to new members who have not yet figured out the culture of the board, though. These people will be given time to adjust and then will be chased away or embraced wholeheartedly depending on how things go.
